Revealing the Hidden Heat: How FLIR Empowers Advanced NiTi Alloy Research at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University
NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs) are among the most promising materials for solid-state refrigeration technologies, owing to their remarkable elastocaloric effect (eCE) and superelastic properties. However, accurately characterizing their thermal behavior—particularly under mechanical stress—remains a complex and ongoing challenge. Leveraging FLIR’s high-speed, high-resolution thermal imaging, the research team was able to visualize inhomogeneous surface temperature distributions during mechanical loading cycles—revealing critical insights that conventional contact-based sensors could not capture.
